Located 3 miles from the village of Spean Bridge, the small hamlet of Gairlochy is one of the most picturesque areas in Lochaber with both the River Spean and the Caledonian Canal passing through. There is a lovely swing bridge where the canal meets Loch Lochy where boats can berth. The Great Glen Way passes nearby and there are beautiful walking and cycling paths. Spean Bridge offers a local supermarket, cafes, restaurants, hotel, primary school, golf club and train station with connections to Fort William, Glasgow and London.

Fort William is the main centre of Lochaber and is known as the "Outdoor Capital of the UK." The River Lochy is one of the best known salmon rivers in Scotland and there is also fishing available on the River Spean for an annual subscription of about £30 a year.

With its historic swing-bridge straddling the Caledonian Canal as it enters Loch Lochy, the small hamlet of Gairlochy enjoys a spectacular waterside location. The canal itself, with its towpath running all the way to Fort William, provides many leisure opportunities and moorings/pontoon facilities are usually available on Loch Lochy by separate agreement with British Waterways.

Travel north from Spean Bridge on the A82 and after 1 mile take the left turn at the Commando Monument on to the B 8004 which is signposted to Gairlochy. Follow this road for just over about 1.50 miles when you will reach the hamlet of Gairlochy.
