Luxury development attracts celebrity buyers

A new £45million luxury development in Glasgow’s West End has created around 200 jobs for the city.

The Botanics-circle

The Botanics is the first significant ‘high end’ development in the area for years and will occupy the site of the former BBC buildings off Queen Margaret Drive.

The developer, David Wilson Homes, said there has been “significant” recovery in the property market over the past 18 months in the West of Scotland.

The company said it had made two sales from “high profile” buyers but declined to give any names.

The biggest Penthouse suite, which is selling for close to a million, is attracting “a lot of interest” but hasn’t yet been released for sale.

It features four bedrooms, four en-suites, two living rooms, four balconies, and a 25ft square roof top terrace

However for those on a slightly, smaller budget, the two-bedroom duplex apartments start at £290,000.

David Scott, Managing Director for David Wilson Homes said the development was attracting interest, a year before the properties were marketed. All 15 apartments in the first phase have already been snapped up with the second phase about to be released.

Mr Scott said: “We’ve noticed a recovery over the past 18 months – the West of Scotland has taken a bit longer to recover – and we are seeing demand again for luxury homes.

“The market is pretty strong. The agents in the West End are all reporting closing dates.

“It’s such a prominent site in Glasgow, it’s good to see it developed.

“I think it will enhance the area. It will definitely boost values.

“The types of buyers we are targeting are downsizers, retirees, professionals. There is a huge demand in the West End for that type of buyer.

“Most of the development in the West End has been smaller scale. This is probably the most significant.

“It’s also supporting employment. We are a Scottish company and a local business. We employ local trades and local sub-contractors.

“We are the largest apprentice employer, we have a graduate scheme.

“We will have anything up to 200 people working on the site at any given time. They are all local trades; joiners, bricklayers, etc.

“The area does attract a lot of celebrities. We’ve made a couple of sales from high profile buyers but we are sworn to secrecy!”

On completion, The Botanics will feature 75 two, three and four bed duplex apartments alongside 19 three and four bed townhouses.
