The time taken to get a planning approved has long been and issue for the new build industry – and the Scottish Government’s latest quarterly statistics show faster average decision times for local developments.

However, times are slower by almost 18 weeks on average for major housing developments (50 or more homes) compared to the same period last year.

Commenting on the statistics, Tammy Adams, head of planning with the industry body Homes for Scotland (HFS), says: ” These figures show Scotland’s planning system is becoming less well equipped to deal with applications for major housing developments, which are key to providing the thousands of homes four growing population desperately needs. HFS is committed to working with the Scottish Government and other stakeholders to get the root cause of the problem and ensure effective solutions are identified and put in place”.
