It has been a good year for sellers in central belt towns with the likes of Bearsden, Lenzie and Alloa all sitting in property hotspots. According to the latest UK House Price Index (UK HPI) from Registers of Scotland, the highest year-on-year price gain in April was in East Dunbartonshire, where the average of £202,466 is up 11.2 per cent from April 2016. Coming in a close second was Clackmannanshire, where prices have risen by 10.7 per cent to £118,903. The figures also show the average across the country was £145,734 – and increase of 6.8 per cent which represents the highest year-on-year increase since March 2015. All property types rose in value but detached properties achieved the biggest gain. The story was not so good for some of Scotland’s island communities. Among the fallers are the Western Isles, where the average price was £85,093 – 15.3 per cent lower than a year ago and the Shetland Isles. Prices in the City of Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire also dropped.
