Registers of Scotland’s latest monthly UK House Price Index shows the average price of a property in May this year was £143,106 – an increase of 3.5 per cent on the same time last year and marginally higher than the previous month, but considerably lower compared to the UK average of £220,713, which was 4.7 per cent up on May 2016. However, sales volumes in Scotland for March 2017 showed a decrease of 17 per cent compared to the previous year, although this would have been skewed by the introduction of LBTT in April 2016, which caused sales volumes in March 2016 to rise markedly as a result. Price increases were recorded in 27 out of 32 local authorities in May this year compared to May 2016 – the biggest in Perth and Kinross, where the average price rose by 7.6 per cent to £182,254. The biggest decrease was once again in beleaguered Aberdeen City, where prices dropped 7.8 per cent to £164,277.
