Overview
Like so many of the popular towns in Lanarkshire, Wishaw has great connections with Scotland's major cities. Glasgow is 14 miles to the east, and Edinburgh is 32 miles to the west.
Smaller towns like Motherwell, Hamilton and Coatbridge aren't far away either, thanks to great road connections, the A71, M74 and M8. You might be on the edge of the Clyde Valley, but public transport is good too.

Living in Wishaw
Wishaw was once a steel manufacturing and mining hub, like so many of the Scottish towns in Lanarkshire. Today, it still has a community spirit but the high street offers all modern amenities. National chains sit alongside independent shops, cafes and restaurants.
In recent years, Wishaw has been revived a lot. Heavy investment from the local authority has improved the infrastructure and roads. Parking and shopping opportunities have been boosted, along with loads more leisure facilities and impressive entertainment venues.
Such investment has also meant housing developments have been on the rise. In and around the town, there's a fantastic choice of property. From spacious new builds to traditional red sandstone terraces, there are houses to suit all.
Where should you look for a house in Wishaw?
With such development, Wishaw is more popular than ever. If you're searching in the town centre, there'll be some competition over the best properties, particularly on Leighton Street. It's one of the most popular roads in town, thanks to beautiful terraced houses with huge windows and a short walk into the centre.
Another convenient location is Wishawhill, just north of the town. Here, there's a great choice of new-build houses and you're close to the golf course and major supermarkets.
For potentially more space for your money, try around Coltness. It's the largest suburb, located to the north east of the town centre. There are loads of local authority-built houses, including detached and semi-detached bungalows in the 1960s estate of Branchalwood.
Nearby Cambusnethan is also worth a look, as it has plenty of amenities and is within easy reach of the A722. It's slightly uphill so some properties get good views over the town.
Greenhead and Dimsdale, both east of the centre, have a lot of modern houses. Dimsdale is closer to Waterloo, which used to be a village of its own, but as Wishaw has expanded it has become part of the town's suburbs.
Two adjoining areas, Overtown and Newmains, are also considered part of Wishaw. Newmains is a great place to search if you're looking for period properties, particularly along Church Avenue and the surrounding streets. Houses around this area also tend to have larger gardens. If you prefer modern homes, try Overtown and its many developments.
