Prices on the rise

The latest UK House Price Index from Registers of Scotland shows the average price of a property in Scotland in December 2016 was £141,553 – a 3.5 per cent rise on the previous year – compared to the UK average of £219,544, up 7.2 per cent over the year.

The volume of residential sales in Scotland in October 2016 was 14.7 per cent lower than the previous year, however.

The top five local authorities in terms of sales volumes were Glasgow City, City of Edinburgh, Fife, South Lanarkshire and Lanarskhire, while the biggest price increase over the last year was in East Renfrewshire, where the average price increased by 15.4 per cent to £220,072. The biggest decrease was again in Aberdeen City, where prices fell by 9.8 per cent to £167,608.
