According to Bank of Scotland’s Seaside Towns Review, the average house price in Scotland’s seaside towns has grown by 39 per cent – equivalent to £348 per month since 2005, which exceeds the 32 per cent increase for all seaside towns in Britain.
Interestingly, while seven of the top 10 coastal towns with the biggest price increases are in Aberdeenshire (led by Fraserburgh with a rise of 139 per cent from 2005 to 2015), Millport and Campbeltown both made the top 10. However, in the last year, Lossiemouth on the Moray coast saw the largest price increase (18 per cent), going from an average of £118,330 in 2014 to £139,297 in 2015.
The most expensive seaside town in Scotland is North Berwick, with an average price of £327,124, followed by St Andrews (£302,536). Least expensive, is Port Bannatyne on the Isle of Bute (£77,132). As a regular visitor, says Beverley Brown, I’m a fan of Lossiemouth. It has a spectacular beach and mix of old and new properties – including luxurious new developments such as Lossiemouth Marina, where townhouses and apartments range from £175,000 to £240,000 and Golf View Apartments, overlooking the coast and Moray Golf Club.
