Where is it?
Carluke is the Clyde Valley’s largest town, sitting on a high plateau overlooking the River Clyde, right in the heart of Lanarkshire’s fruit growing area and commutersville.
It’s about half an hour’s drive to Glasgow and there’s a direct train link, which makes it appealing for city workers.
What’s going on?
Carluke has seen a recent housebuilding boom, as well as refurbished schools, a new football stadium and investment by local businesses. It’s a town on the up.
Places to eat?
Prego, a friendly Italian on Clyde Street, is reliably good.
The lighthouse Studios and Arts Centre on Neidpath Road is a permanent base for Shine Youth Music Theatre and a centre for the development of arts activities in Lanarkshire. Tickets will be on sale soon for Shine’s forthcoming production of Hairspray The Musical, which will open its doors in January 2017.
