Local area

Anstruther has a deep rooted history. Originally a fishing village, it is now very popular with visitors and home to the Scottish Fisheries Museum and famous for the award-winning fish and chips of Anstruther Fish Bar (Fish and Chip Shop of the Year 2001-2002).Nowadays, small scale manufacturing and service industries are the main focus of the town, which also benefits from an abundance of wildlife and recreational events, contributing to the local community spirit and making it an ideal place to live.

The local parish church located in the centre of the town and perched on a small hill is the hub of the community but there are plenty of other places of interest to visit. Anstruther War Memorial, located further inland, is a prime example and lies completely flat on the ground in the centre of a landscaped roundel.

The charm of its coastal location means Anstruther has always attracted famous names. From Andrew Melville and Dr Thomas Chalmers, the leader of the Scottish Church, to David Martin and BBC DJ Edith Bowman - plenty of notable names have passed through the town. Spend your time in Anstruther sampling local delicacies at recommended restaurants including The Waterfront, Dreel Tavern and Haven Restaurant, or take advantage of the local amenities found within a mile of our development. This includes a local Co-Op, numerous coffee shops, a Post Office and a hair salon. With a bus stop just outside the development and offering regular services to and from the popular areas of St Andrews and Kirkcaldy, you can really make the most of your retirement in Scotland.
