About this development
The small East Lothian town of Prestonpans is etched in historians' minds is the place where Bonnie Prince Charlie and his Jacobite army defeated the Royal Troops of King George II in 1745. The name of the town, lying close to the shores of the Firth of Forth, is widely credited to local monks who used pans along the seashore to manufacture salt.
