The A75 is on the main bus route and within easy travelling to nearby centres from Dumfries to Stranraer. A brand new state of the art regional hospital can be found off the A75 on the outskirts of Dumfries.
Other various close transport links can be found including Dumfries train station providing links to Carlisle and Glasgow. Major Bus links can be accessed from the Loreburn Centre, Whitesands or Burns Statue in Dumfries.

Cairnryan lies about 49 miles to the west and is the main ferry terminal for Northern Ireland with services to both Larne and Belfast.
The M6 and M74 networks are accessible at Moffat, Gretna and Lockerbie. Dumfries town centre is 26 miles east and offers several major supermarkets, popular High Street shops, shopping centre, schooling, university campus, a range of bistros and medical facilities.

The region itself is renowned for its outdoor pursuits, beaches, leisure facilities, social events, festivals and history. Some of the quieter country roads are popular for walkers, runners and cyclists.
The surrounding area offers a wealth of activities for the outdoor enthusiast with golf courses at New Galloway, Gatehouse of Fleet and Castle Douglas, a sailing club on Loch Ken and marinas at Kirkcudbright and along the Solway Firth as well as established equestrian facilities.
The coastline to the south-west of the region offers excellent sailing and sea fishing, and there are safe anchorages at Port William and the Isle of Whithorn.
