Where should you look for a house in Glasgow?

The Southside is pleasant, yet still has an urban feel. Shawlands is the heart of the area, so look around Kilmarnock Road if you want to be nearer the bars and restaurants. The streets nearer Newlands Park are more popular with families looking for a leafier corner of Glasgow. Other key areas around here include: Pollokshields, Govanhill and Mount Florida.

From the Southside, trains into Glasgow Central are regular and quick. From both Shawlands and Mount Florida, it only takes around 11 minutes.

If you're willing to have a longer commute, you'll find some great houses in Giffnock and Newton Mearns. Both south of the River Clyde, they're a bit further out than the Southside. If you'd rather be north of the river, try Bearsden and Milngavie, both popular with commuters. All these places offer a great balance of open spaces and short journeys to work.

If you'd rather be in the city centre, the West End has still got a village vibe, and you're never more than 10 minutes from the centre by public transport or around a 30-minute short walk. Try places like Dowanhill, Partick and Kelvingrove.

In the east of Glasgow, you'll find a lot of modern developments thanks to the major regeneration in the run-up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Improved facilities have attracted a lot of home owners to the area, particularly around Dalmarnock.
