A NEW £14 million affordable housing development will be officially opened by the Deputy First Minister later today.
Nicola Sturgeon will cut the ribbon at a ceremony at Partick Housing Association’s Centurion Way project in the west end of Glasgow.
It provides 87 homes with different tenure options. Forty-three are for social rent, 22 are for shared equity sale, and another 22 are for “mid-market rent”.
The Yorkhill-based development aims to provide affordable rented housing for people who cannot afford to buy or rent privately and who are unlikely to qualify for social rented housing.
Council research last year found around 10% of Glasgow households could be in this position, it was claimed.
Centurion Way is said to be the first mid-market rent development in Glasgow to be funded under the local authority’s development programme.
Ms Sturgeon said: “This new development of affordable, energy efficient homes is vital for this pressured housing market area. Centurion Way is ideal for people who cannot afford their own home but do not qualify for social rented housing.
“It will be a fantastic addition to the community and I know that the new residents will enjoy living here.”
The project received £7m in funding from the Scottish Government through Glasgow City Council.
