39. Sales on the rise while prices fall

The only way is up, it seems – the average property price in Scotland in Novermber 2016 was £143,033 – 3.3 per cent higher than previous year and an increase of 1.0 percent compared to the previous month.

The latest UK House Price Index (UK HPI) from Registers of Scotland, shows that this compares to a UK average of £217,928, a rise of 6.7 per cent over the year and 1.1 per cent month-on-month. Sales volumes in Scotland increased 8.5 per cent on the previous year – contrary to annual decreases elsewhere in the UK. The top five local authorities in terms of sales volumes were City of Edinburgh, Glasgow City, Fife, South Lanarkshire and North Lanarkshire.

East Renfrewshire showed the biggest price increase over the last year – up 16.6 per cent to £225,312, while the biggest decreases were in the City of Aberdeen (down by 7,8 per cent to £171,530) and Inverclyde, where prices fell by 7.8 per cent to £95,551.
